Baja Ed Education fund
In May 2023, through the generosity of over 50 donors and guidance from Baja Bound, we had the privilege to build a house for the Castro Gaspar Family in Maneadero, Mexico. Our hearts grew in pride during our build. But in order to truly change the trajectory for this young family, Jesus (9) and Dilan (5) need to stay in school. Their parents chose their plot of land because of its proximity to schools, showing that education remains a clear priority for their family. After getting to know Alem, Elizabeth, Jesus, and Dilan in working with them to build their home, we Bay School Friends were moved to establish a scholarship fund through Baja Bound’s sister organization, Baja Ed, to ensure that Jesus and Dilan can stay in school and better ensure the Castro Gaspar family’s path out of poverty.
We’re setting a lofty goal to raise $15,400 for this scholarship fund that will ensure Jesus and Dilan have the school fees and associated costs covered to remain in school from K-12th grade.
Just $600/ year will keep the boys in school and ensure that they won’t be compelled to drop out in Junior High - the age when most drop out to work in the fields. These young people deserve to choose their future, on their own terms and education will give them that ability.
