Home Build Fundraiser

Through the generosity of over 130 donors and guidance from Baja Bound, we built a house for the Ramirez Family in Mexico! But in order to truly change the trajectory for this young family, Axel needs to stay in school. His parents had to drop out in search of work when they were just adolescents. His mom’s greatest dream is for her son to study. With this goal in mind, we’ve established a scholarship fund using some of the fundraising overage from the house build. With a goal of $7,320, this scholarship fund will ensure Axel has the school fees and associated costs covered to remain in school K-12th grade.

Unfortunately there are many, many kids in Axel’s situation, struggling to remain in school when the economic pull to work in the fields is so great for these impoverished families. Baja Ed is a local non-profit working to keep kids in school. Whatever we raise via this site in excess of Axel’s scholarship will go to sponsoring other kids in the community who are at risk of dropping out due to lack of money for school fees, uniforms, school transportation, etc. Just $600/ year will keep a student in junior high- the age when most drop out to work in the fields. These young people deserve to choose their future, on their own terms and education will give them that ability.

Here’s a quick run down of what we raised to date and what we accomplished with those funds while in Mexico:

With $14,000 we built a 16’ x 20' house and outfitted it with a solar panel, gas stove, mattresses and bedding, water tank, and CFE (electricity) connection.

We were also able to visit two migrant camps and an orphanage during our visit, providing much needed basic necessities including food, toiletries, and cleaning supplies to families and orphans who have so little and are trying to survive in impossible conditions.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported this trip and helped change the lives for this family. Now we want to change the future, not just for Jesus and Adelina but for Axel and his kids and for all the other young people in Baja who dream of becoming something greater. Help us do this through investing in education!
